I've had CML since 2009 and been in remission (PCR .01) since then on Tasigna. My life insurance policy ran out in 2010 and I have not been able to find anyone to insure me. Has anyone had any luck with this.

Thanks for your help.

I believe I still have my workplace policy. But really only one way to find out...

I pay extra for increased coverage. Not sure if it will payout or not. I assume it would unless I left the company.

Only way I can think of to get a policy is to get a job that offers a plan that doesn't require a physical.

Good luck with that, I doubt if we will find anyone willing to insure us at a price anyone could afford, other than a workplace policy. I was able to increase my coverage up to a certain limit which was determined by my age, not by my cancer status.

Is there any reason to believe the policies we have through work before being diagnosed will continue to pay out if we die. Are we supposed to notify the policy when we get cancer?

As long as the group policy is in force, you should be OK.  If the employer dropped the entire group policy, there would be a question as to what rights you have to convert the policy.

Once you have the policy they can't take it away because our got sick, that would defeat the purpose. Make sure your coverage doesn't lapse though. Unlikely to get insured directly, would need to be a group policy that does not have a physical requirement. Many large companies offer those to new employees.

If you have an employer that luckily offers an annual open enrollment, pick up the guaranteed coverage each year. I'm lucky enough to have that. I can inch up my coverage each year a little at a time without having to answer those pesky health questions.
Dx 2/10/12.
Sprycel 100. mg.
10/2015, Pleural effusions, both sides, about a 3-4 week break in Rx, reduced to 70 mg.
PEs, weren't completely gone, started building back up, about a 6-8 week break in Rx.
01/2016, Reduced to sprycel 50 mg.
10/2016, developed severe skin rash, mainly upper arms and upper legs, smaller rashes on lower arms, lower legs, upper back/neck. Rx break of about 6 weeks.
1/25/17, reduced to Sprycel 20 mg.
7/19/17, still at 20 mg Sprycel, undetectable.
11/9/17, 20 mg Sprycel, undetectable.

I have a policy that I began when I was 18. I have struggled many months to make the premium and keep it going.  I have tried looking into term life and other options and no one will write a new policy on me.  This was before the PH, so I am even less attractive now as a client.

If you can secure insurance, do so.  If not, that is something we have to let go of. Nothing is going to make us marketable to the insurance realm because they still have the Grimm Reaper hanging over our heads.  It all comes down to a statistic based formula and unfortunately we are low on the list for coverage.

Best of luck.

Pam do everything you can to pay the monthly premium because you are correct in the fact that no insurance company will ever write you a new policy now. I know a family where the dad let his life insurance go and now he has passed away and the family is really struggling. I wish you the best!

I have Farmers Life insurance and had my 10 year term plan since before diagnosis. I was told just recently that I can renew at the end of this 10 year with no added increase in cost except for my age. I was also told if I was trying to buy insurance for the first time after CML they wouldn't even offer me anything. Completely disqualified!

If you have a whole life policy, you may be able to convert it into a permanent policy for a smaller amount without paying additional premiums.

Also, review what your current life insurance needs are. The money you are paying to get a death benefit may be more useful during your lifetime.
