I had an appointment today with my rheumatologist.  I have been flaring since before Christmas, trying to push thru it, but finally broke down and got in to see doc a month early.  We were talking about things and the question came up......does having an autoimmune disease like RA or Lupus make the leukemia worse?  Doc said she didn't know, but that she is certain the leukemia can make inflammation worse.

So I wondered if anyone here would know?

She's putting me on a 2 week prednisone taper and I see her again next month.  If I'm not better, I may have to consider Rituxan infusions, which I am not crazy about.  One cancer drug is enough!

For leukemia your immune system does not recognize the leukemic cells as the enemy.  For autoimmunity your immune system sees everything* in the body as the enemy.

*Everything except the leukemic cells, it seems.
