My Lipase has always been low while on Tasigna. It hovers around the 15 range. I think normal is 22 to 51. He doesn't seem concerned about it. Do you know what your numbers are?

They just told me it was abnormal so I assumed it was too high. I did not ask for the value. I am new to all this and everything makes me nervous!

I am 15 months in and still think I am going to die every time any little thing goes wrong. Right now I have a cold and funny pains in my legs. I am convinced the cancer has come back.

It usually means the TKI (especially Tasigna) is messing with the pancreas a bit.  If you also have abdominal pain (sometimes from the back) then it may be bad enough to take a drug break.  If it is just high, it may just be TKI drug induced issue.  These tests assume there are no outside influences when they determine what is "normal".  So overall it depends on the level of the enzymes, and whether there are also other symptoms.  This usually resolves itself over time, maybe sometimes with a short drug break.

Thanks Trey for your response to this issue. I know so little about this. I have no symptoms so hopefully a few days off the meds will help.

I have been off of Tasigna now for 5 days due to high Lipase reading. Noticed last couple of days I have slight dull ache on and off in left flank area. No abdominal pain. Could this be something to do with pancreatitis? I hope I don't have to change meds . Things seemed to be going more smoothly now in regards to side effects except for the Lipase. Will have blood work again tomorrow. Sorry about such trivial things but I get really scared.

Left flank pain is probably just the spleen still healing.  It can give off pain for a long time.  The CML injures it and it takes quite a while to heal.

Trey is correct a drug break should do the trick. Then back on at a smaller dose and increase to normal dose over time.

I should have mentioned that I don't have a spleen. Removed 20 yrs ago due to accident. I wonder if that affects cml. They told me my platelets will always be a little higher.

I have had the same with regards to Lipase which is a non-specific marker of Pancreatic inflammation in addition to being an enzyme for fat metabolism. The key value is your blood glucose along with your Lipids and cholesterol.Tasigna has been associated with raising all three leading it to be a potential risk factor in development of vascular occlusive disease. For those reasons, I was switched to Gleevec (day #2 today and doing OK)

Hope I don't have to switch to another drug. Most is side effects from Tasigna have subsided and am finally feeling quite well. Had no symptoms when I was diagnosed in July either. Had labs yesterday and waiting for them to call me. I am having a big problem with my "nerves" since all of this. It has been quite a shock as I am sure it was for lots of others.

Back to onc today and Lipase down so will restart Tasigna but only 300 mg instead of 600 mg daily. My cbc was ok except wbc was 9.2. Wondering if that is because I have bad cold?

A book that I think is helpful for nerves is Hope and Help for Your Nerves by Dr. Claire Weekes. She is from Sydney Australia. The book was written years ago but still relevant today. Just a thought. Anyone I have told about it has found it helpful as well, but books are personal in terms of likes and dislikes. Just thought I would share this.

Diagnosed June 2014. WBC 34.6 and Platelets 710 at diagnosis. Bone Marrow Biopsy pre-op diagnosis: Leukocytosis. Post-op diagnosis: the same, Leukocytosis. No increase in blasts <1%. Quantitative BCR/ABL testing and formal chromosome analyses confirmed CML diagnosis.<p>Supplemental Report: Abnormal BCR/ABL1 FISH result t(9;22). Molecular test for BCR/ABL1 fusion transcript by RT-PCR positive for BCR/ABL1 transcripts, b3a2 at 133.561% and b2a2 at 0.001% and ela2 at 0.001%. Followup monitoring showed negative for ela2. BCRABL1 was 148.007 at diagnosis. Started Sprycel 100 mgm and blood work was normal at 3 weeks. MMR at 3 months: 10/4/14 was 0.106. Stayed in that range with one dip to 0.04 once and back to 0.1 range. Oct. 2015, BCRABL1 was not detected, following with 0.0126, 0.0092, <0.0069, 0.0000, <0.0069, 0.0000. Now on 70 mgm of Sprycel. Continuation of PCR test results: 07/07/2017, 0.0000%, now on 50 mgm of Sprycel, PCR 9/12/17 0.0074%, PCR 11/3/17 0.0000%, PCR 1/17/2018 0.0000%

Harper, I forgot to say I shared the book because you mentioned having some difficulty with nerves with all of this you are going through. I have my times as well since diagnosis. I get stressed and worried sometimes.

Harper,

Because this book was written by a doctor, she uses terminolgy like "nervous illness". I have found that the things shared are helpful and it doesn't mean someone has to have a diagnosable anxiety issue to benefit from the book. We all know that a cancer diagnosis can create anxiety for anyone whether they have had anxiety before or not! Anyway, if you decide to read it, hope it helps. It was written years ago but the main principles are still good.
