I have been taking Tasigna since 2012 with good results but from the beginning along with fatigue I suffered terrible muscle cramps. At times I stayed up almost all night from severe pain in the calf. I tried both hot and cold press with mixed success. I am taking magnesium calcium vitamin D combination. I also drink coconut water when it gets really bad.
For the last one year it eased quite a bit with some odd cramp attacks. I thought my system finally has adjusted and was very happy. But in the last couple of months the cramps have come back with a vengeance. Have anyone faced this recurrence? Is that normal - a drug side effect coming back after easing off? It happens mostly in the night and I can hardly sleep. Is there anything I can do to get relief? Please help.

Oh minu I know how you feel I had terrible muscle cramps when I was on Gleevac, my pcp told me to take 250mg magnesiun a day and that cured them. Maybe you need a higher dose of magnesium, and less of the others. All I know is just the magnesium took care of my problem. I can't take calcium because of artheriosclosis, have you had your calcium level checked maybe that could be a problem for you. Keep us informed Billie

Minu - Take magnesium citrate by itself for leg muscle cramps. Billie is correct on the dose - 250 mg to start with a glass of water. Take it at bedtime. If the cramps continue, you can increase the dose 125mg - but that should not be necessary.

Combo vitamins/minerals tend to use magnesium oxide. magnesium oxide does not absorb very well.

Diagnosed 11 May 2011 (100% FiSH, 155% PCR)

with b2a2 BCR-ABL fusion transcript coding for the 210kDa BCR-ABL protein

Sprycel: 20 mg per day - taken at lights out with Quercetin and/or Magnesium Taurate

6-8 grams Curcumin C3 complex.

2015 PCR: < 0.01% (M.D. Anderson scale)

2016 PCR: < 0.01% (M.D. Anderson scale)

March        2017 PCR:     0.01% (M.D. Anderson scale)

June          2017 PCR:     "undetected"

September 2017 PCR:     "undetected"

Try drinking a beverage with some tonic water in it.  The quinine helps muscle cramps.  My doctor recommended it, and it helped.  I add a little tart cherry juice concentrate and ice - tasty!

Dx: Sudden severe anemia detected 07/2011, followed by WBC spike. CML Dx 02/2012.

Rx: 03/2012-Gleevec400.  Reduced 02/2013 to Gleevec300 due to side effects (low blood counts).

Response: PCR-Und within 7 mo. on G400. Maintained MMR4-MMR4.5 on G300. PCR-Und since 02/2016.

Thanks. Started taking magnesium. I guess I will have to wait for a while to see the results.

Which magnesium compound are you taking? If you are taking magnesium citrate (250 mg) just before bedtime, you should see almost immediate relief - one or two days at most. It's very quick. Avoid magnesium oxide, it doesn't absorb very well and you are not likely to get the quick relief.

Yes, I have starting thinking that the side effects kinda go in waves. It may be fatigue thats bad for a while, then once that eases up it may be the bone/joint pain and later move on to nausea or what ever wild side effect decides to kick my butt. For me, it's kinda like roller coaster.

Diagnosed in September 2011. Tried one year of Sprycel. Had great response. Became undetectable in a few months. Changed to Tasigna hoping for less side effects. Self medicated myself down to 20% dose and held for 3 years before becoming detectable again. It has been a journey that has helped me realize what life is about! I am all about a balanced life. I firmly agree with my decision to lower my dose. What is life if you aren't living? Mine will never be the way it was, but it is going to be as good as I can make it! Drs PRACTICE medicine, we can guide our dr to help us with a better life! Don't settle until it's acceptable to you!
