Anyone one from Chicago? The reason why I ask is, my former oncologist relocated there. He's a great doctor and I miss him. (Not that my current one isn't.) Doubt that there is anyone here that is seeing him but just had to ask. Googled him and it says he's at Elgin/McHenry IL.

Hi Dona! I'm from around there. I live in McHenry county and about 15 minutes from Elgin. I was seeing someone locally, but just switched to Northwestern. Who is the doctor because I'd love to find someone locally again?

OMG Dona. He was my original doctor. I absolutely loved going to him, however, his office was terribly disorganized. I was diagnosed last July and the ER doctor secured me an appointment with him the next day. From day one, I felt I was in good hands. He listened to my quirky and crazy thoughts, went above and beyond to check me for any problems I was having.

I just left there in May due to them losing my PCR results twice (in six month time). I would have to go into the office and tell the nurse what blood test needed to be ran. That's not even waiting for over two hours at times to see him. I just couldn't do it any longer so I switched to Northwestern. I wrote him a long letter, thanking him for the quality of care and telling him I lost trust in the nursing staff, not him.

You're right though, he's a great doctor. Just wish he was at a better office!

Small world! Thank you for sharing your experience. Dr. Mandal diagnosed me also and performed two BMB. The last one was five months after the first and was to check my progress before he left. The office staff told me he came down her temporarily to fill in and ended up staying six years. He wanted to return to his family. (Can't fault him for that.) I asked about him not long after he relocated and the staff said he called in to check on things.

Really hope he can get his office staff organized. The cancer center down her was in a hospital and affliated with IU. The staff is really caring and conscientious--up until lately would get a receptionist rather than menu options. They have several volunteers and programs including a quarterly Celebrate Life. I only went once but they had a catered meal, door prizes, game, music, and recognized their volunteers. The artistic patients even put out a calendar this year.
