How much water do you all drink? My doctor recommended I drink about 100 oz/day (I'm guessing to help flush all the cancer cells out). I can get through 60-65 oz with no problem, but those last 40 are really a struggle. It's kind of making me hate water! Any suggestions?  And am I going to have to do this forever, or just until I reach MMR?

Thanks! - Karen

Mine said to drink when your thirsty. When I was first diagnosed they had me drinking a lot of water.

I probably bring about 30oz of just water a day. I also drink other things as well.

I have a real problem getting enough water in but find it helps to put filtered water in a stainless steel bottle like a Kleen Kanteen. For some reason, it tastes better in there. A lot of people put fresh fruit or cucumbers in their water and I have seen special containers for that purpose. There are probably even combinations on Pinterest.

Your post also reminded me. When I was first diagnosed, a friend tried to get me on fruit vitamins she was selling. She directed me to a website, beatcancer.org (think org is the right suffix). Anyhow, a phone consultation was set up where one would call on their dime, and a trained counselor would go over things that could be changed. I didn't continue because some of the suggestions were a little hard to do in the midwest...like eat all organic vegetables. I have a garden but totally organic doesn't work here. Same with organic pest control. Other things included drinking water, eating vegetarian, being creative, exercising, etc...

I place about 6 frozen blueberries in a 2 liter coke bottle at night, place in fridge, and drink from it all the next day. It gives a little bit of flavor, the blueberries offer nutrition, and I can monitor how much I'm getting. I don't buy flavored water because I don't know what else they put in there. I've heard that the amount of water you drink in oz. should be half of your body weight in lbs. If you weight 200 lbs, drink 100 oz of water. I personally shoot for 60-70 oz. and don't fret over it because I figure that is better than getting frustrated at falling short and stop trying.

Disclaimer (for my own peace of mind): I don't drink out of the 2 liter bottle, I pour the water into a glass. Haha

That's a great idea!  I may try that.  I have a big bag of frozen strawberries in the freezer.

I don't drink any more water than usual, I like water but I generally drink around 64 oz. per day, more if I'm outside on a particularly humid day. If you are taking Gleevec drinking an over abundance of water can be problematic due to the intestinal issues many have with that TKI anyway.

Did they say why they felt it was important to drink so much water? Perhaps it's important to over hydrate while dumping the dead WBCs but I can't think of why you would need to after your counts return to CML normal.

During the first few weeks after diagnosis while starting TKI drugs it is important to over-hydrate to flush out the billions of dead cells.  After a month or so it is counterproductive and flushes out too many nutrients from the blood.

That's a terrific idea.  I feel the same way about flavored water.  I will definitely try this.
