Saw onc today. My bcr- abl has gone from 37 to 15 to 1.2 in the last 5 months on imatinib. I was also able to have a good talk with her and air concerns about how dismissed I've felt. She responded really well and I think we can work together. When I told her I felt like cml was no big deal to her because it's easy to treat and no longer a death sentence, she said "yes, that is how I feel but I can see it didn't address the shock you felt at dx." She apologized and told me she was disappointed in herself for not reading me better.

I was able to let her know that if I whine about something to validate me first, then wave her Pom poms about how good I'm going to do. She got it! I feel like I can trust my gut feelings about people even more now.

Wow, what a perfect way you handled that!  What a great outcome all around - win-win for each party, as well as the whole CML community.  I really like your succinct solution: let you whine, validate you first, then wave the pom poms about how good you're going to do.  That's pretty much what we need, right there.

Dx July 2009 on routine physical.  WBC 94.  Started Gleevec 400 mg Sept 2009.  MMR at 2yrs.  Side effects (malaise, depression/anxiety, fatigue, nausea, periorbital edema) never improved.  Kidney issues developed because of Gleevec.  Switched to Sprycel 70 mg in Aug 2011.  Above side effects disappeared or improved.  Have been MR3.5 - 4.5 ever since.  Two untreated pleural effusions followed by one treated by stopping Sprycel Jan 2017.  After 9 weeks, PCR showed loss of MMR; re-started Sprycel at 50 mg and in 3 months was back to <0.01% IS.  Pleural effusion returned within a couple of months, same as before (moderate, left side only).  Stopped Sprycel 50 mg for 12 weeks; pleural effusion resolved.  At about a monthoff the drug, PCR was 0.03; at 11 weeks it was 2.06 - lost CCyR? Have returned to 50 mg Sprycel for 3 weeks, intending to reduce to 20 mg going forward.

Thanks for the response kat. Believe me, I've been rehearsing in my mind what to say, how to say it, even IF I should say anything for weeks. I'm a big chicken when it comes to confrontation, so it was gratifying to have such a good outcome!
