Background...  I had an early and deep response to 400mg Gleevec, but dropped back to 300mg due to significant side effects. I'm no longer undetected, but my PCRs have been stable at 4+ logs for over 2 years.  My onc is considering a move to Tasigna to reduce the edema and unpleasant GI issues, but I am concerned about the increased cardiovascular risks.

Hmmmm...  I started thinking about the best and worst of the 3 main TKIs.  What if we could have the best of both worlds?  Has anyone tried combining a half-dose of Gleevec & Tasigna?  I have not been able to find any recent studies, but I'd sure be interested.

:o  On 2nd thought, what if it resulted in the WORST of both worlds?

Dx: Sudden severe anemia detected 07/2011, followed by WBC spike. CML Dx 02/2012.

Rx: 03/2012-Gleevec400.  Reduced 02/2013 to Gleevec300 due to side effects (low blood counts).

Response: PCR-Und within 7 mo. on G400. Maintained MMR4-MMR4.5 on G300. PCR-Und since 02/2016.

This is what I have been saying all along. They need to concentrate on making the current drugs safer. At the very least work on getting rid of the black box label on Tasigna.

10/01/2014 100% Diagnosis (WBC 278k, Blasts 6%, Spleen extended 20cm)

10/05/2015 0.02% Tasigna 600mg
01/04/2016 0.01% Tasigna 600mg

I had seen information about trying TKI drugs combinations in a clinical trial but I do not know that any were actually done.

Just theoretically speaking without any data, a combination of two drugs at low dose would seem to lower side effects.  Since Gleevec and Tasigna are the most similar drugs in function, it could possibly serve to lower side effects.  You could ask your Onc (and get laughed at).
