I used to laugh at co-workers who "only" worked an 8-hour day.  HAH!  Slackers!  Then I developed CML.  At first, I was determined to keep up my normal pace at work and at home.  I couldn't do it - I was exhausted, and the other side effects were limiting my ability to function like I wanted to.  I had to learn to pace myself.  Now, I pretty much work the same hours that my co-workers do, except that I split my time between working remotely in the morning (to accommodate the "GI issues" (ahem), and then working on-site in the afternoon. Everyone has been very understanding.  I don't sneer at anyone's hours anymore.

Dx: Sudden severe anemia detected 07/2011, followed by WBC spike. CML Dx 02/2012.

Rx: 03/2012-Gleevec400.  Reduced 02/2013 to Gleevec300 due to side effects (low blood counts).

Response: PCR-Und within 7 mo. on G400. Maintained MMR4-MMR4.5 on G300. PCR-Und since 02/2016.

It is tough most of my coworkers work 10 hour days. I just can't do that anymore. I fear I will be laid off. Prior to CML I could do 10 hours or more and then go home and work on house projects.

Retirement?  Or do you mean trying to preserve what energy you have to face another day of living?  I was diagnosed at 50; now close to going on Medicare.  When diagnosed, I was working full time and had a career. Things changed.  Money (and boredom) are always dogging me now, so I work temp jobs (some limited but full time) when I can get them.  Getting enough rest is important to my quality of life. Otherwise, I'm just working, coming home and plopping on the couch.  No social life at all. I've learned there's no amount of money that compares to having the energy to face and enjoy the world, at least as best I can.  Good luck in your decision.

Going back to work 4 hours a day, 3 days a week till I know how I do. My friends think I'm crazy but I have to try. My disability caseworker was a little skeptical and said if I just can't do it, stay home and rest up.
