So the specialists said it was safe to take my ppi and gleevec together . I take 40 mg twice a day but stopped after a few weeks and because I wasn't sure . He also said he thinks it my hb pressure Meds robbing my potassuim not the gleevec . He wants to also put me on calcium because the ppi robs calcium . I am not sure that the calcium interferes with gleevec either . Not sure what to do 40 mg of ppi makes my acid reflux more manageable but it doesn't work as good as twice a day . If I take two time will my cml results suffer also do I have to add the calcium and will that interfere with gleevec ? I guys I am just as confused as before going to the Gi guy

I currently take Tasigna, but my doctor has mentioned me switching to Gleevic so I can take a PPI. I guess Gleevec is more PPI friendly.

Good luck, I know what your going through. I am able to manage GERD with Tasigna and taking Pepcid twice a day and still get good results. I had to make extreme diet changes to make this work. I miss my PPI!

I'll comment on the calcium - just take it at the other end of the day or at least two hours away from your Gleevec. There is a bit of interaction between them if you take them together.

Some dieuretics will deplete you of potassium as well. I used to eat a banana everyday to make sure I was okay for potassium.

Hi Jerry,

Boy what a mess it's like you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. When I was first dx  I went through the same thing, I thought I'd lose my mind. I was on G and I had to take nexium, then I got a call saying I couldn't take nexium because I was on plavix  so I was put on protonix  a couple years later I got a call I couldn't take protonix because I was on Sprycel. It's so scary when you,re trying to figure out what to take when dealing with other health problems. I finally decided with my other health problems I have to take these meds to stay alive, so I take protonix Early Sprycel afternoon and protonix 40mg late I make sure I space them far apart so the protonix doesn't interfere with my Sprycel. Somehow I have to squeeze in 3 bp pills during the day. I eat a banana and drink a lot of water everyday so far everything is going okay. I've been undetectable for 4 years now. I can't take calcium but I take B/12 I just take that anytime I think of it so maybe you could do that with your calcium.           Billie

Hi Billie,

You were on a bit of a merry-go-round, glad it is sorted, at least for now. :D

Hi Billie,

Glad to hear that you've got things on the right track and that you remain PCRU. That's great! I also have to take a PPI while taking Sprycel.  I also space the two as par apart as possible. I like taking Sprycel in the morning and my PPI at night before bed to control acid while I sleep.

I've been hovering right around MMR but it's taken me a while to get here. I've had two oncologists say that they are OK with this because my numbers are good enough to show a response so they feel I'm getting enough of the drug absorbed. I still worry so it's really good to hear that you continue to have such a great response.

Take care,
