I had a bone marrow aspiration done today at M.D. Anderson.
About the only thing good about it was the lovely young technician drilling a hole into my hip bone.
Other than that - this is something I will not have done again. I'm done with this.
As it turns out for those who have followed my journey, I am near "undetected" or at "undetected" having had my first 'zero' reading three months ago on only 20 mg of Sprycel and lot of Curcuin. But my blood counts are still not normal (red blood 25% below normal) although hemoglobin and hematocrit are finally normal. Because I have had anomalies in my marrow cells, Dr. Cortes wants me to have annual aspirations so they can take a close look at the cytogenetics. And do what? Just watch I suppose.
But after today's poking and sucking and down right pain, ache and huge discomfort, I made an executive decision. No more bone marrow's. I don't need to be a statistic for a scientific paper. The cells I have are normal enough. If something bad happened in my peripheral blood, I would learn about it the traditional way. If something is bad in my bone marrow, what are they going to do? A transplant? I don't think so.
As long as my PCR's are less than 0.01% no bone marrow's. If it were to go up a lot - then maybe, but only if that beautiful young woman technician is the one doing it.
Merry Christmas.
