I been given the green light to go back to Practicing Jiujitsu . Its been almost three Months since I was last able to roll ( Practice).  I have many concerns for example, I am still getting a Muscular and skeletal pain in my ribs and back.  Its started as soon as i started Gleevec..  My Doctors doesn't know what it is one CT Scan showed that my spleen had shrunk and thats what they thought was causing my rib pain.  I have also been getting a tingle in my back about a inch or two from my spine . About twice a month it goes from a tingle to a sharp pain that comes and goes in spurts. My wife feels my back and she does say that if feels a little swollen muscle or tendon not sure ( feels like knot ) .  I have had EKG and two CT scans and nothing really show. This week I have also developed a nagging feeling on the left side of my chest that feels like I have tape pulling on my skin towards my arm pit.   I do have some good days where I don't feel anything.. I also have a feeling of shortness of breath but it goes away when i jog which make me think its just anxiety..  I really only feel the shortness of breath when I am seating down.  I went in to my Cancer Center on friday because I thought it could be a Infusion of some kind.  The doctor don't think it is because my lungs sound clear and I am only 36 years old.

Shortness could also be my allergies and Sinus acting up.

My Worries with Jiujitsu is that my jiujitsu partners are often placing there weight on my chest making it hard to breath.

It is a high cardio work out and if Gleevec is causing issues to my heart I don't want to put more stress on it.

I would like to go back some day but i feel that I should give a month or two longer to see if some of these side effects go away..

The last thing I need is a bruised rib and me freaking out that its some thing wrong.  ( Freak out mode and go visit the doctor again for something I don't have)

Maybe I should just find a new hobby/sport/stress reliever!  I doubt that anyone has any CML/Jiujitsu experience but do any of you who do higher extreme sports also had the same concerns?

Jerry I was diagnosed in August 2013, I am currently on Gleevec 400mg. In November I started having tightness pressure full feeling on left under ribs. I was sure I had pancreatic cancer. And you think you have anxiety. ;) My Hematologist ordered a cat scan came back fine, then I had a ultrasound still fine. I seen a Gastro Dr and had a endoscopy still fine only a little gastritis. I saw a Ortho Dr (only because I could feel it in my shoulder blade also)  did a MRI of my shoulder and said I had a shoulder impingement that was causing Costochondritis Its where your muscles tighten around your ribcage. I also have shortness of breath, it used to be worse and I noticed it a lot more before I was diagnosed, example talking and walking I would get winded. This let up recently in the last few months. I read a lot on it when it was happening to me but I need to stay off the Google search, you should to, it just causes more anxiety on what is not there. Hence the pancreatic cancer lol.  Just listen to your DR and Trey. I read gastritis can cause air around your lung that will cause shortness of breath,  as can anxiety, low rbc, and lots of things. I was sure it was my heart also when this was happening to me. You could find me  walking around my house almost constantly carrying a portable blood pressure cuff, to the point I would hide from my husband when taking it. I know    I am not great at knowing about this disease because I am still learning but this is my experience, I hope it helps...

Also, I think if you like doing it you should do it. It will make you feel better physically and mentally. After all the Dr gave you the go ahead. I don't do sports but I should join something. We have horses. I shovel, stack wood, throw hay. I am pretty good with a wheel barrow. lol I ach a lot, Joints muscles in arms legs muscles I did not know I had. It actually only started this past Oct. I get tired often and feel down but I have to remind my self it could be worse. I am thank full that there is a medication that can help us....... I rest when I am tired.

Lol hey Chrissy , I prettying much did and felt the way you did. Including the blood pressure machine. Thank you for the explanation . I also have done to much of the wrong research . In my research I self diagnosed my self to have just about every cancer I could think of and do research on . I already started walking and jogging around the neighborhood . I am going to do some higher form of cardio before I go at it .(jiujitsu ) Thanks for reminding me that it more in my head than the side effects

I'm cracking up!! I'd become so obsessed with my blood pressure when I got the chest discomfort, I too try to hide taking it from my husband! I also have one of those finger things to text my blood oxygen level and heartbeat. I've had a chest x-ray, ct scan, echocardiogram and stress test with echo. Nothing has been found.

We had to put our dog down a month after I got diagnosed. We just adopted a puppy last weekend and it's helped me get my mind off of it all. Decreasing the anxiety a little.

Gleevec causes all kinds of weird pains and sensations. Not to mention your body trying to get used to what was happening and now trying to get back to normal and of course the big anxiety and trauma. You are likely fine. Gleevec should not cause any issues with your heart if you didn't have any issues before.
I don't do jujitsu but since diagnosis I've done P90X a few times, Insanity, Rush Fit, Yoga, and various other exercise regimens. I would say take it slow. Figure out what your limits are work within them for now. If your dr gave you clear to workout then go for it.

mlk210, honest to God I just told my husband a couple of days ago I wanted to get one of those oxygen finger things...lol I should buy extra batteries for it also...  I am glad you have a new puppy. Its funny we have horses and when I am at the barn I forget I am even sick, I don't notice pain or heart palpitation's or shortness of breath. I am not constantly thinking about my breathing or feeling for my pulse to see if its skipping. I do that sometimes when I am in the car, lol. I feel better I am not the only one with these health anxiety's.

You should get one Chrissy. It helps my anxiety when I get shortness of breath. I'll put it on my finger and be like okay, I must be okay. Then again, it's another tool for us to obsess over too!!! My dad went through a year when he was going a-fib. He's now had surgery to correct it, so he gave me his oxygen finger test thingy! When I'm with my kids, I can forget about all the things I feel for the most part. As I shuffle them from school, playdates and parties. But like you, when I'm alone, one thing can throw me off and I'll begin to obsess over it!! I tell my husband, one day I'll be normal again, right? A new normal I suppose. :)

Jerry,

One of the sensations you have resonated with me, feeling like you have tape pulling your skin back to your armpit. We hear a lot about people having "cramps" in their big muscle groups when taking Gleevec, but there a many tiny muscles in our bodies, too. Tiny muscles that can hurt like hell when they are in spasm or just cause irritating sensations.

Next time you think "pancreatic cancer", try thinking, "irritating small muscle cramp" instead.  ^_^
