Is the treatment the same for AML and CML?  I am also practicing the posting of a message, I am not too good at it.

Good job posting the message.  Simple answer, not at all! Take a look at this site for some comparisons.

Please note that they only mention Gleevec (imatinib) in this article. This needs to be updated.

AML requires chemotherapy and often a marrow transplant, while CML is treated by targeted TKI drugs.  They are both blood cancers affecting primarily the myeloid line of white blood cells (as opposed to the lymphoid line of WBCs).  Otherwise they are very different diseases.

CML is a chronic form of leukemia which means it progresses slowly.  AML is an acute form that progresses very fast.  Without treatment a person with AML would not survive for very long whereas someone with CML could survive up to a few years.  Eventually if left untreated CML will progress to blast crisis which is similar to an acute form of the disease.  The prognosis for someone with CML is better than it is with AML.

Thank you for answering my question Pat, Trey and Lucky! I am learning something new everyday. I have copies of all my blood work that I will post here tomorrow. When I look at it I will never know how they were able to diagnose me with CML, it is true, I have it. The ER doctor was absolutely fantastic, he is the best. I had no BMB.  I was in the ER for approximately 16 hours. I checked in the ER with headaches, dizziness and nausea, one time I felt that I was going to pass out. My husband took 8 x 500 ml of water in a bag with us, I told them in ER you will see me drinking lots of water, it helps with the dizziness. The first nurse that came to check me said, I am going to give you a bottle, and you pee in this bottle, before you dilute all the drugs! I said nothing, I had nothing to worry about, all I took was my Synthroid (I don't have a thyroid) It was about 2:00 AM and this nurse was 25 years old, I felt that she needed some sleep. 30 minutes later she comes back, and offered Advil or Tylenol, I said no thank you! A few hours later I asked for advil, and she gave me 3 Advil. I questioned 3? She said, these are smaller, but thanks for asking!

Happy Easter!
