Issues with fogginess, etc
I had received a notice yesterday morning that my mailbox was overloaded and had spent an hour yesterday cleaning it out and for whatever reason, tonight, just a little while ago I noticed an old email from this forum sitting at the top of the list
Re: [Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia] - why are we sooooo tired?
calling me ... the timing was close to perfect
Hi JoeyJoeJoe welcome to the group .. Interesting to hear about your side-effects that others experience as it seems there is no end to the possible side-effects of this type of medication.
Hello again everyone; haven't posted here since shortly after they first switched to this different format. Was diagnosed in 10/2009 and have been taking Gleevec 400mg since 02/2010. Had problems with low blood pressure and became very adept at going to the ground at the first indication; this after passing out a few times. Doctor took me off the "water pill"I was taking as part of my treatment for high blood pressure; solved most of the problem, but not entirely. Biggest problem I have right now is taking the pill .. watch out stomach here it comes ... I have to work at having enough of the right kind of food in my stomach, and even then it still often bothers me .. my body keeps telling me it doesn't like the pill. Have my quarterly blood test later this month; last test was weakly positive, so hoping for a better test.
My Dr. has told me more than once, that had I been diagnosed later than 10/2009, or if Gleevec fails, I would be prescribed one of the newer medications that are perhaps slightly more effective .. my only thought was "What? and have to go through a whole new set of side-effects" none of them are any fun.
... and in other news, TODAY IS MY BIRTHDAY ...

At the earliest opportunity, and whenever possible, lower your TKI dosage; TKIs are toxic drugs and the less we take longterm the better off we are going to be ... this is especially true for older adults.
In hindsight I should have started my dosage reduction two years earlier; it might have helped minimize some of the longterm cumulative toxic effects of TKIs that I am beset with.
longterm side-effects Peripheral Artery Disease - legs (it's a bitch); continuing shoulder problems, right elbow inflammation. GFR and creatinine vastly improved after stopping Gleevec.
Cumulative Gleevec dosage estimated at 830 grams
Taking Gleevec 400mg an hour after my largest meal of the day helped eliminate the nausea that Gleevec is notorious for.
