I saw my Internist today for my annual "make sure the rest of me isn't falling apart while I'm worrying about CML" physical.  My triglycerides have always been normal (40-50), but today were 200.  My cholesterol also went up (170 to 220).  There has been no change in my diet.  My previous lipid panels had been done both prior to CML and on Gleevec.  I've been on Tasigna since May 2013.  Anyone else with experience with this?

Hi Leesa,

It is listed as a common side effect for Tasigna http://www.netdoctor...es/tasigna.html

My triglycerides were affected, but my biggest problem with Tasigna was my glucose levels.  Have your glucose levels been affected?

Thanks, Gerry. I knew it was a known side effect, but wondered about people's experiences....does it stabilize out like most TKI side effects or is it usually a progressive process?

My glucose has been mildly elevated (135 non fasting) which is also new for me.  I'm awaiting the fasting ones done yesterday (after my lipids came back high).  Did you have to have a tasigna dosage reduction or treatment of your glucose levels?

Hi Leesa,

I'm not sure with Tasigna, I'm on Gleevec and have cholesterol issues anyway. Mine is unfortunately genetic, if someone is eating an egg and bacon mcmuffin across the room, I'm sure my body somehow absorbs the triglycerides instead of them.

I have started taking extra strength fish oil to try to manage it. It has come down slightly since my last test. I'm still in the H range but a couple of numbers lower. I was on a Statin, but Gleevec and Statins keep each other in the liver for longer, which can make for muscle and joint issues.

My fasting glucose increased higher than what you have reached on Tasigna.  I am now on Sprycel, which has been better, but I am not back to previous levels.
