Hi all,

I'm currently "quarantined" because my white blood cell count dropped too low after three weeks of being on Sprycel.  I know the general guidelines for what I can and can't eat, but I'm wondering if anyone knows of a book or website with recipes for people who have compromised immune systems.

Thanks!

Joel

It is more about extra vitamins.  A good multi plus extra folic acid.  Also good to have higher levels of many others such as extra C, D, E, etc.

What is your WBC?  Generally docs get overly worried about low counts when it is not necessary.  We do not have "compromised" immune systems; they will respond as needed.

I'm in the same boat.  General rule of thumb is to only eat cooked or processed foods.  Alas!  No salads, berries, or other uncooked foods.

Dx: Sudden severe anemia detected 07/2011, followed by WBC spike. CML Dx 02/2012.

Rx: 03/2012-Gleevec400.  Reduced 02/2013 to Gleevec300 due to side effects (low blood counts).

Response: PCR-Und within 7 mo. on G400. Maintained MMR4-MMR4.5 on G300. PCR-Und since 02/2016.

Thanks, Trey, I didn't think about the vitamins.  My WBC was 1.6, with a neutraphil count of .6, so pretty low.  In general, my doctor is pretty good about helping me understand at what point things become concerning.

What are the rules on things that need to be peeled like bananas and avocados?  Are those fair game?

I've read that harder cheeses are okay, but softer ones like brie aren't.
