Hi everyone,

My lymphocytes have been creeping up since I've started Sprycel (now at 80mg) in Feb '12 so they decided to run a T-Cell panel on my last visit. These were the results:

T-Cell panel PB

Gated region                              56%

NK Cell CD56                            28.7 H%                (1.2 - 24.2)

T-Cell Antigen CD3                   53.7 L%                 (57.8 - 87.8)

CD3+/CD4+ Cells                      26.8 L%                 (32.3 - 63.8)

Absolute CD4 Positive Cells       1066  UL                 (229 - 1448)

CD3+/CD8+ Cells                       26.1 %                  (10.8 - 36.3)

Absolute CD8 Positive Cells     1038 H  UL             (78 - 746)

Early B-Cell CD19                       8.8%                     (2.2 - 17.2)

Interpretation

Specimen is: Peripheral Blood

Markers on: Lymphocytes

LGL cells CD3+CD8+CD57+ = 10.8

Peripheral blood lymphocyte subsets are analyzed.

Analyzed Region = 56%

When I asked about this test they told me that sometimes Sprycel irritates the body and increased Natural Killer Cells are the result - that was the answer.  Does anyone know - is this kind of increase good?

I can't answer your question, but I can tell you that when I started Sprycel my White Count went up to almost 10K.  It stayed that way for about a month or so and then came back down to around 6K range.  Sprycel is known to cause an immune system response.  Unfortunately they don't seem to know exactly why or exactly what it means.  Some speculate it is a good thing.....With stuff like this I tend to differ to my doctor's attitude about it, if they don't seem bothered by it, I try not to think about it.  I have something where all of my counts are now in the normal range except for one thing that looks at the size of red blood cells, that number is a little high.  I asked doctor what it meant and he said it meant my red bloods are a little big, the look of disinterest suggested it was nothing, so I just let it go.

Sprycel can increase NK cell counts.  Overall it is considered to be a favorable thing, but I don't know that anyone really knows.

http://www.ncbi.nlm....pubmed/23108877

Also, these counts change by the hour, so I am not sure the value of such tests in isolation.  Your doc must just be curious.

You know, mine increased also the last couple blood draws.  However, my blood counts remain very low (around 2.0 for WBC, never higher than 1.0 ANC and very low PLT).  So, Sprycel did not raise anything in me.  But I did get out of the low "danger" zone with my red and white blood counts (I have been dx since Nov. 2009).  Sure hope the increase is a good thing.  I could use some of that.  We all could.  May it be a good thing!!!!!

Take care,

Tedsey
