I take Gleevec 400mg with breakfast, and I almost always have a big glass of OJ within 30-45 minutes of taking my dose.  So, this is actually a problem?  Or are they more concerned about the effect that major supplements have (that give you ~ 400% the recommended daily intake of Vitamin C)?

Those articles were written in 2008.  That's pretty old info.  I would think that if they'd have found a serious problem with drinking OJ and then between 2008 and 2013 proved a detrimental link, it would be on the list of "no-no's" like grapefruit is.  I'm going to keep drinking my OJ.

Agreed.  I simply don't see how that could be a problem, because I reached CCyR very quickly on 400mg while drinking OJ every morning within 30 minutes or so of taking my dose.

The first article was written by a high school student.  Just sayin'....

During my early treatment I took my Gleevec and Vitamin C at the same time to increase acidic levels and promote absorption.  I reached PCR undetectable in record time.  So I don't believe it applies to CML, and likely not to anything else.

The argument is that if we make ourselves healthier, we give "cancer" a better host to live in.  So let's all smoke incessantly and eat twinkies all day -- wait, that is absolutely known to promote cancer.  Never mind.

I was treated at MSKCC and they never said anything about it until I started asking about supplements, which was about a year into treatment.  The nutritionist pointed out that one of the supplements I wanted to take was very high in Vit. C and they had seen some issues with high Vit C and Gleevec but never really gave me the specifics of how it applied to CML.  I wound up taking the supplement anyway and it didn't have any impact on my treatment at the time.  If I remember correctly the issue had something to do with antioxidants.  Don't hold me to this because I am going off of memory, but the argument was based on the fact that chemo/Gleevec needed oxidation to be effective and therefore taking high quantities of antioxidants while on Gleevec was in theory counter productive.  An off the cuff comment was made that antioxidants are good for preventing cancer but once you have it they are not good for "chemo".  And if I remember correctly the conversation was focused on chemo in general, which at the time I questioned, because TKI is not exactly chemo....(not trying to revisit that debate)

Ive been taking 200mg Vit C and 10ug Vit D daily for around 6 months now, and my last counts were 0,01% IS after 9 months of G.

Even continued taking it after reading the 2 top links a few months back.

Lucky,

There have been discussions about free radicals and reactive oxygen species (related to oxidative stress in the body) and leukemia.  You may remember the anti- green tea argument some have made who concluded (incorrectly, in my view) that oxidative stress might actually be helpful in fighting leukemia.  So to promote more oxidative stress the theory would be to take fewer anti-oxidants.  I do not agree with the theory at all, but that is another part of this "Don't Feed Cancer" bovine sharts grumpy-cat poo-poo.

Actually, if I follow the links correctly, the author (who probably was a high school student) got her info from a blogger who not only writes health-related articles for a newspaper, but who is also the esteemed author of some marriage-self-help books!  AND one of her articles discusses the abuse of alcohol at Hogwarts (didn't realize Harry Potter was a drunk).  I've gotta read more from this lady.  Not only can she cure us of cancer, but she can fix our marriage problems, too!!  What a talented lady!
