I started to have night sweat again recently.  Before dx eight months ago, I did have night sweat and I know now that it is a typical symptom for CML.  Throughout the treatment, it rarely happen.  I have a reasonably good response so far. Here are my questions.

Have anybody  had this experience?

Is it a concern?  What could be the reasons?

What tests should I ask my doctor to do, if any?

Hi, Ray. . .I had severe night sweats before diagnosis, and have had them recently, though not nearly to the same extent.  My numbers remain good.  I'm not sure if it's the TKIs, the CML, or the age (I'm 48), but my body's temperature control seems to be totally out of whack.  Definitely tell your doc about it, but try not too worry too much.

Hi Ray,

I suspect that worrying about night sweats is something that has happened to an awful lot of us.  The key thing is that the really frequent ones pre-dx are caused by CML.  The totally random ones post dx seem to be a TKI side effect - as Marnie says they are probably part of the whole broken thermostat thing that seems to go with TKI treatment.

Hi Ray,

I get night sweats off and on, like Phil and Marnie said I believe it's part of the tki, body thermostat, cml thing. You should mention anything out of the ordinary to your doctor, but I don't think it's anything to worry about I don't.  Good Luck Billie

Marnie, Phil and Billie,

Thanks for the reply.  I will mention it to my doctor next time I see him.  With all the answers you gave me, I will not worry too much about it.

Ray

Yup, I get this too....Gleevec 400mg.  My thermostat has been somewhat out of whack since starting the TKI.  It is especially pronounced after a long day when my body is completely exhausted.  Once I learned that others have this interesting side effect, then I quit worrying about it.

I get night sweats on and off without any apparent reason. Just make sure there are extra clean, dry pj's at hand and go with the flow

I'm going to start referring to my hot flashes as tki night sweats.  Wow.  I feel younger already.....

Hi everyone,

This is an older thread, but I wanted to check in with the gang on TKI-related night sweats and see who else might be dealing with this and what your oncs have been saying about it.  I have been on Gleevec 400mg for 2-1/2 years now, and I have had periods throughout treatment where I have light-to-moderate night sweats.  Example: regular night sweats that start for no good reason and happen almost nightly for 1 - 2 weeks, but then they vanish for 4 - 5 months, then they come back for a week or two (almost consecutively), then vanish again for a few months, etc.  So, sure enough - my body has started another night sweats routine and has happened pretty much every night for the last week or so.  I usually fall asleep by 9:45pm, wake up around 2am with moderate night sweats, get out of bed for a few minutes, then go back to sleep - and when I wake up between 5 - 5:30am, I'm completely dry with no recurrence.  What the heck?

So, what could be triggering it?  I feel great during the day & evening (no fever or chills), eat well, no noticeable fatigue (thankfully), and am literally in the best shape of my life right now.  And I haven't had a cold or illness in months (*knock on wood*, because the kids are now back in school).

Are any of you dealing with something similar, and if so, what are your oncs saying/doing about it?

Thanks for your feedback!

Dan

Hi Dan,

I have not had many night sweats since I first posted this thread last November.  When it happened, it only lasted a couple of days.  For me, night sweat mostly come in Winter even before Dx.  I am not sure it is related to room heating and heavier blanket or not.  I did not have any in Spring and Summer and I always turned on the air conditioning when it is warm.
