Hi everyone,

First the good news, my WBC has officially fallen into the normal range at 6,660 which is great! I have been on Gleevec for 3 1/2 weeks now and started with a WBC of 23,000 - it has varied from 13,000 to 40,000 before I started Gleevec but 23,000 was the most recent count. They have now lowered my dose to 400 mg of Gleevec from the 600 mg that I had started on. I also ended up with a Hematocrit of 31, (was 39 prior to treatment) and Platelets at 138 (were 327 prior to treatment). Should I be concerned about those numbers?

Thank you,

Bre

Good start.  The lower counts are what most of us experience, especially in the 2 - 6 month timeframe after starting the drug.  These low levels you are experiencing are not usually a serious issue unless they go very low (maybe ANC below 1.0, Platelets below about 75, etc -- ask your doc).  Also good to hear you have lowered the dosage.  600mg can be hard on the blood counts for some people.
