People in India eat tons of the stuff and get CML and all cancers at the same rates as anywhere else in the world.

If curcumin down-regulates all those natural cell signalling processes that are required for normal cellular function, how does anyone know it is not doing more harm than good?

Look at page 7 Table 2 under "incidence". Cancer rate for south asia is one third lower than Western Europe or North America.

And diet only gave a hint of efficacy. Discovery of Curcumin's potential was when Curcumin concentration in blood was increased to well over 20ng/ml.

Curcumin is not easily absorbed hence the flood of research into ways to make it more bio-available.

Message was edited by: Michael  Down regulating is not the same as 'stopping' these pathways. Cancer is often the case of run away cell pathways that have been up-regulated. If Curcumin helps the body to keep these pathways from running away - that's a good thing. And besides, arthritis, Alzheimer's, skin, and other benefits are also being observed. But your point is taken. I can just imagine, however, the wreckage that Sprycel is causing that's unknown, like early research showing that Sprycel induces Osteocytes to turn into fat instead of bone. One takes a TKI and has unpleasant side affects - muscle cramps, diarrhea, skin, eye and other issues. One takes Curcumin and headaches go away, inflammation reduces and skin looks better. Pick your poison.

Incidence of CML in the U.S is 1 - 2 per 100,000.  Incidence of CML in India is 1 - 2 per 100,000.

Anyone should eat all the curcumin they want.  Enemas, too.  I only said I was sceptical.

At Michael's request below, the following is added, which says that India researchers find that CML rates are not geographically different in India, but even more, that India patients on average get CML at a  younger age than the rest of the world:

... Sorry Trey - I don't see the data for India in your reference?  (http://seer.cancer.g...html/cmyl.html)

The referemce I cited which is specific to south Asia (http://www.scribd.co...tatistics-2011) shows more than half lower.

It's o.k. to remain skeptical. It was easy enough for me to try it ans see what happens. I only take 20mg sprycel !! 20mg. And I am at MMR. The only significance for me was when I added Curcumin - then I was able to get the drop. A big drop.

But I am skeptical too. I continue my experiment.

HI Michael:  I think you have been doing very well, and I always follow to see how your doing with the low dose of Sprycel and Curcumin.  Just keep doing what your doing, and I hope you get to your goal on the next PCR test.

I do not drink, but when you get to your PCRU I will have a glass of wine to celebrate your great news too.

Susan

Scuba...at what point in your treatment did you start the curcumin? Was it after your breaks due to low counts? Have you only been taking it while on S? Just curious.

Hi Melanie,

I began to take Curcumin after I stopped Gleevec. Then when I started Sprycel, I continued to take Curcumin eventually getting my Curcumin dose up to 8 grams daily.

I have been taking high dose Curcumin ever since - including during my three month Sprycel break due to severe myelosuppression.
