I have an appointment with Dr Cortes at MD Anderson on Oct 2nd for a consultation. Based on his accessment, we will be making a decision to either continue some kind of TKI treatment or proceeding with a SCT. My question is, does anyone know how long it takes to get results back for a BMB at MD Anderson? The patient access specialist told me that Dr Cortes could have the results that same afternoon, if I had the procedure that morning. That seems really quick to me, but I really have no idea.

My thoughts were to have one done before I travel out there so I can have the results for his review. My last one was done in January. Of course, I'm assuming he would want one to review and not sure if he would even accept one from another facility rather than their own. Just trying to save money and time. Any thoughts? Thanks, Melanie

Thanks...In the 3 that I've had, it's been a similar experience. At dx - day after BMB. 2nd and 3rd took about 10 days. Think, I'll just wait and see if they order one for me at MD Anderson. No sense in having one if not needed. Blessings to you and your son!

Mine took 10 days. My onc didn't get them sooner; even he was antsy because it took so long.  But who knows, maybe Dr. Cortes can request expedited processing when he has patients onsite.

HI:  When I used to get A BMB, it always seemed to take about 10 days before I got my results.  Its been quite awhile since I had one, so it might be quicker now.

Thanks Lizzybee and Susan. 10 days seems to be the average time to get results back. Was wondering if the actual tests take long to conduct or if it's more about the lab getting to it. Regardless, my local Dr said to get the BMB at MD Anderson, because Dr Cortes probably has more trust in his own labs and they will know exactly what his requirements are. Makes sense to me. I've had one BMB without sedation and 2 with...wonder which MD Anderson does? Would prefer sedation.

I generally get some results overnight, but others take a week or longer.
