I notice my LDH has been high, on quite a few of my blood tests, going way back. Not enormously high, but about 25-50 points above normal. So what causes this, if it isn't cancer cell turnover?  Exercise?  The onc never mentions it, so it doesn't seem to be a big deal to him.

Anyone have any explanations? Would appreciate a better understanding if so.

Thanks,

Traci

No doubt others have more knowledge than I do - but I think LDH is about any kind of cell turnover.

Mine skyrocketed when I had my CBC test done the day after a soccer tournament (on super hard ground, my legs were absolutely shot for a week) but then was back to normal the time after...

Diagnosed 9 June 2011, Glivec 400mg June 2011-July 2017, Tasigna 600mg July 2017-present (switched due to intolerable side effects, and desire for future cessation attempt).

Commenced monthly testing when MR4.0 lost during 2012.

2017: <0.01, <0.01, 0.005 (200mg Glivec, Adelaide) <0.01, 0.001 (new test sensitivity)

2016: <0.01, <0.01, PCRU, 0.002 (Adelaide)

2015: <0.01, <0.01, <0.01, 0.013

2014: PCRU, <0.01, <0.01, <0.01, <0.01

2013: 0.01, 0.014, 0.016, 0.026, 0.041, <0.01, <0.01

2012: <0.01, <0.01, 0.013, 0.032, 0.021

2011: 38.00, 12.00, 0.14

Elevated LDH occurs in about 60% of those taking Gleevec, and  other TKI drugs.  Other commonly elevated blood markers normally associated with Gleevec and TKI drugs are AST, ALT, creatinine, alkaline phosphatase, and bilirubin.  These will tend to normalize for most patients after about a year or so.

Hi Traci:  My LDH jumps all around all the time, and my Oncologist is not concerned at all.  She did mention something to me about the way the cells are functioning. She runs it to see whats going on with each blood work. My original ONcologist never ran one on me.  I am not concerned with it being I had asked her about it, and she had no concerns.

Mine jumps around too but has never been out of the normal until my last blood work when it was 3 points above the high normal. My doctor was not concerned and said that so many things can affect that value, ie exercise, weight changes etc.

Hi:  I do not have my blood work handy right now, but I was very high a few times.  Much higher than how you are running with yours.  If your doctor is not concerned, then I would not worry about it either.  Its done on every blood test, so our doctors can see if there is anything unusual to be concerned over.  Like I mentioned, my first Oncologist never ran a LDH on me, so who knows what my numbers were all those years or if they were significant.
