As the title indicates, which antibiotics are ok with G for a throat infection?

Been a few rough nights now with no sleep thanks to a sore throat, irritable cold, fever of 101, and pink eyes.

Seems my spleen is pissed at me as well, its been nagging me all night and made it impossible for me to find a good sleeping position, i guess its working hard to try and help with the infection.

Called onc and he said i should be put on antibiotics.

Ive read these are usualy used for streptococcus:

penicillin

amoxicillin

cephalexin

erythromycin

Seems the onc i talked to leaned towards penicillin so i guess that would be fine?

Couldnt find any interactions between penicillin and G on the interactions checker on drugs.com.

Also, should they be taken at least a few hours apart from G?

Yes and yes, but Erythromycin should not be taken with Gleevec. Zithromax and the others are OK. Frank

I haven't had a problem taking antibiotic with Gleevec, but you should be aware it could upset your stomach.  I liked taking the ZPack because it is only a few pill and then you are done with it, so less harsh on the stomach.

Feel better

Good to know CallMeLucky, ill take mine with food, and 10 hours apart from G, once pr day for 7 days.

Doctor gave me something called Doxylin so i hope there are no interactions there

Frank or someone else, maybe you know?

Couldnt find any interactions on the drugs interaction checker so i guess its safe.

My counts today were:

WBC: 3.2 (Lym 1.1, Mon 0.4, Gra 1.7)

HGB: 12

Platelets:142 (Up from 120, yay)

CRP 42

Hi Teddy

I'm so sorry you have an infection so soon after your dx. You have my deepest sympathy. I truly understand how you feel, I got pneumonia 3 weeks after my dx, I spent 5 days in the hospital, high temp, 2 iv antibiotics,& trying to adjust to Gleevac, then I had to get 2 transfusions. I survived that but I think I told you I had a lot of uti infections while I was on Gleevac, and my pcp always put me on cipro all the time. Then after 2 years, out of the blue she called me and said I couldn't take cipro while I was on Gleevac. I said okay but what do I do if I get Anthrax?  So I basically get pennicillin when I need it. But I haven't had any utis since I went off Gleevac. Just think if you feel like crap now it's probably your infection, and not necessarily cml. That how I felt, I didn't know which thing to blame. Just take it easy, and drink lots of liquids. With these tkis it's really easy to get dehydrated.            Sincerely Billie

Thanks Billie

Seems like you had quite a rough start on G.

I hope my immune system soon will be strong enough to handle things like this on its own.

Right now im trying to get down my breakfast, but every bite is so hard to swallow cause of the infection, going to take awhile.

Seems like my infections are clearing up, but i have developed a bad cough, so i found some old cough syrup in my fridge which my Dr had prescribed for me many months ago. It has Ethylmorphine (opiate narcotic analgesic) in it, i hope that does not interact with G, as i couldnt even find it on the drugs interaction checker, i will only be taking it for one or two days, so i guess there is no danger with such small amounts. I took only one teaspoon just to be safe, and the cough is better.

I have a few days left of the Doxylin treatment, and i can definitely feel its effects on the stomach as my constipation is pretty much gone

Next time i think i will take CallMeLuckeys advice, and take a shorter antibiotics treatment if possible.
