A). I'm glad you got it checked out and have a definitive answer.

. Your kids are kinda young, right?  Gotta expect to get a lot of colds, viruses, etc., until they get a bit older.

C). It always seems that whenever I get sick, I can't just lay around and enjoy it. Someone else is sick, and I have to take care of them. Or someone needs help with a school project, or needs to go to practice,etc. it never ends. I can sympathize about being sick and not being able to just take care of yourself. Or have someone take care of you.

D). I need to talk to my onc about this "high risk" business. If I'd gotten sick like you, I would probably have waited 3 days at least before calling. I've just been conditioned to wait over the years. Not used to the "call right away if".....

E). Did you get a flu shot this year?

yep, I had a flu shot...oh well....

So what's worse than having the flu?  Watching your child have the flu.  I'm still recovering and we now have an 8 yr old in the house with full blown flu.  Tonight his fever hit 104, he threw up from the fever.  I just got back home from running out to a 24 hr pharamacy to get more medication for him.

No matter how much I worry about my situation it pales in comparison to the way I worry about them.  I know he will be ok, but I just worry so much these days about everything.

One thing is certainly clear, which I kind of already knew, the death of my brother in law and my father in law's deteriorating health are taking a toll on my son.  Tonight he was pretty out of it when we took his temp and he heard me say to my wife "his fever is up to 104".  He started to cry and said he was really scared.  I never saw him so frightened.  I asked why he was scared and he said "because I don't want to die".  I felt so much pain for him.  We just hugged him and reassured him that it was just the flu and he would be alright.  He settled down, but I felt so bad.  I never thought of that first  - the first time my son was afraid to die.  It was kind of heartbreaking, still I was proud of him for saying it out loud and facing it.

How I can relate to that!  My dd Emily has been dealing with eosinophilic esophagitis (and how odd that thanks to cml, I know what eosinophils are and I can even pronounce the word, lol). Anyway, it appears she has had some hidden food allergies that was causing long term inflammation in her throat, making her choke on her food. Poor kid is afraid she will choke and die. She has been throwing up off and on due to the allergies, and every time she throws up, she thinks she's going to choke on her vomit and die. (Note to other parents out there:  don't make the mistake my dh made and tell your kid about famous rock stars who got drunk and choked on their vomit and died.). She trembles like a leaf every time she has to throw up, and keeps telling me she's afraid she will die.  I can't convince her that Bon Scott died because he was DRUNK, and STUPID.

It's so hard to watch those we love suffer, whether it is physically or mentally.

I hope he's feeling better now (you, too).

Lucky - hope you & your son are on the mend; the flu stinks!  My wife and I can't stand seeing our kids sick -- our youngest caught the local stomach bug the other day and has been vomiting for 24 hours.  He's only 6, but he's being extra tough - I find it very impressive that a young kid can keep a positive attitude while hurling in the bathroom.  He just walked back out, laid down on the couch with a frown, and said, "My tummy doesn't feel good".  Awwww, poor little guy.

Tough weekend to have stuff going around!

Thanks for commenting.  My son is doing better.  First night was the hardest on him, but we got Tamiflu in him right away since we knew what we were dealing with and that helped a lot.  His fever broke yesterday and he is slowly coming around.  I'm doing better, still weak, but otherwise alright.  My wife caught it, but she also started the Tamiflu.  She actually started before showing symptoms at the advice of our pediatrician, so hers hasn't been too bad.  Amazingly the youngest one hasn't shown any signs yet.  It will be very interesting if he doesn't get it.

Dan and Traci - sorry to hear your kids are dealing with some stuff as well.  To me that is the hardest part of parenting, the worrying about them, especially their health.  I was sensitive to that before, and after y dx I got even worse about it

We're on the mend, we'll be past this soon.
