I apologize because I know I have this info somewhere detailing how to interpret BM results - can't find on this new iPad and am excited to understand them! My husbands results were just posted on mymdanderson.com.... What does this mean please?

46,XY, t(9;22)(q34;q11.2)[3]

And

Diploid male karyotype 46,XY [17]

And

The percentage of BCR-ABL to ABL transcripts is 3.48

Thank you thank you thank you!,

Steph,

Not an expert, but will take a stab at it.

46 XY t 9,22, q....(3). -  sorry too lazy to type it all out. Those are cells that show the typical translocation in chromosomes 9 and 22.  The q34 stuff just pinpoints where on the chromosomes the turns locations take place.  The number 3 in brackets means 3 of the cells showed the translocation. This is a classic cml translocation.

The other 46 XY (17) just means that 17 of the cells examined had a normal chromosome pattern for a male.

The 3.48% bcr-abl to abl means there are 3.48 leukemic CML cells (bcr-abl is the oncogene that causes cml) for every 100 normal cells (abl gene). Since it says percent, I'm assuming they really mean percent.

HTH,

Traci

Dang!  Writing on an iPad, too, and sometimes that autocorrect typing feature really annoys me. Translocations not "turns location". Stupid iPad thinks its smarter than me. Maybe it is, but I know how to spell and type.

Just one little point, the BCR-ABL trancripts bit is a PCR test so separate from the main cytology numbers.  In terms of cells with the translocation they found 3 out of 20 which is 15% - a nice solid, partial cyctolgenic response.

The 3.48% PCR isn't particularly meaningful at thios stage - it's just the number you watch once the first one its 0 / 20

Phil that answered a lot of questions for me. I go for my first 3 month BCR-ABL this Friday the 25th. I will understand the doc when I get the results, to see how far down the scale I have come. Thanks
