Is anyone taking an Alpha Blocker (e.g., Uroxatral) with Gleevec ... or any of the TKIs by chance?  I have a urologist that is considering starting me on this for some non-CML issues that I've been dealing with, so it'd be helpful to hear other folks' experience with this class of medication + Gleevec/TKI, side effects, etc.  Drug to drug interactions look fine though.

Thanks for any input folks...

Dan, I take a beta blocker.  Not much difference, same results.

It may make you a bit tired until you get use to it. It did me and

I was only 30 years old when I was put on them for irregular

heartbeat (PVC's).

Good luck.

Thanks Simone.  I did a light bit of research on the difference between alpha and beta blockers .... interesting stuff.  It appears that beta blockers & alpha blockers have a similar interaction like Ibuprofen and may other drugs (where concentration could be increased while on Gleevec) -- hypotension and fainting sounds a bit scary.  Does your doc prescribe you on a lower dose knowing that you're on a TKI as well, so that the concentration doesn't get too high?

Dan, my father was a cardiologist and he prescribed the beta blocker when I

was younger and I stayed on that dosage for years.  When he died a month

before I was dx with CML, I split the dosage, half in the morning and half at

night. It made sense re: concentration issues. I've never had any light-headness

or fainting with Corgard.

But a warning I learned from my father, (because I too was a runner):

stop if you do feel any dizziness or lightheadness while running or

before you take off.  As you know a fall involving head to concrete can

be serious.
