I can't shake this sinus infection no matter what i do, I'm going to have to give in and take an antibiotic.  Trying to figure out what goes well with Gleevec, any suggestions from past experience?  In general I don't do well with antibiotics, they tend to make me not feel well, I want to take something short course.  I will see what doctor says but figured it would be good to have some suggestions since there are usually a couple of choices.  Are there any antibiotics we need to stay away from?

Hi there,

I was able to take a ZPack.  short term.  It is only 5 pills.  You take 2 right away and 1 over the next 3 days. Not too strong. I think it is zythromician.

Also, I suffer from chronic sinusitis and I do neddy pots.  If you dont want to buy one athe the drug store, fill a measuring cup up with Kosher Salt (Kosher salt doesn't have additives) mix warm water and salt in the measuring cup, tilt your head to the left first and then the right, pouring the solution in each nasal passage about 3 or 4 times each. It is an old ancient Eastern med secret. And, it really works.  Hope this helps. Nice alternative to meds.

I have just gotten over a severe sinus infection and ended up taking augmentin which has amoxicillin in it (ok with Gleevec) and it finally cleared the infection for me.  I too feel terrible on antibiotics but the pharmacist suggested a probiotic called Susenex a few hours after the augmentin and it really helped a lot!  I tried the nettie pot but for me it made things worst and I suspect I flushed the infection through out all of my sinuses since the pain became much worst shortly after using it and an xray the next day showed all of my sinuses were terribly inflamed..

I felt as though my top back my teeth were all abscessed and the headache was unbearable so though many like the nettie pot I somehow managed to make things worst with it.  Good Luck Lucky.  Skittles

Thanks for the replys, they were going to go with Amoxicylin or ZPack.  Onc was ok with either so I opted for the Zpack, the nurse said it was shorter and would likely be a little easier on the stomach.

I usually do Netti pot before I get sick, but once I get it, I usually stop, I findit to be too uncomfortable if I am congested in the sinuses.

Thank you all, Mrs having some pretty serious respiratory/sinus type of infection going on, real bad cough, all that.  Pretty sure GP will want to antibiotic her, good to know the experiences of others.  Thank you all very much.

Hope she feels better soon.  I've had this for three weeks, usually I shake it off, but this just keep lingering.  Started as a typical head cold, but at some point turned into an infection.  Have the cough too.  Must be what is going around...
