This is probably a stupid question, but I don't need to worry about anything while flying right?  We live in Germany and are flying to the states the first week in April so I'll be on a plane for 8 hours.  Then we are driving from Maryland to Illinois which is like 15 hours or something.  We plan to stop halfway, but I was just wondering if I needed to worry about anything?

My blood work is all back to normal.  Still getting the weird pains in my thighs though where I once had the knots.  Taking Gleevec 400mg.

Thanks!

~Amy.

You shouldn't have to worry about anything except lack of leg room and being cramped and uncomfortable for at least 8 hours .

Seriously, everyone should be aware of the possibility of DVTs (deep vein thrombosis) and get up and walk around the plane every hour or two and the same thing on your long car ride. Get out and walk around. I don't think we're in any bigger danger with controlled CML than the general public.

I hope you have a pleasant flight and welcome back home!

I'm hopping on a plane this morning for an all day flight.  Nothing to worry about. . .except the cramped quarters and all of the germs that are closed in with you.  And the crying children and the kids sitting behind you who keep banging on your seat back.  Hmmm.  .  . maybe I should stay home

Do not take anything that gives you diarrhea (wine ...). Bring change of clothes with you in case.

Hi Amy:  You have nothing to worry about if your doing well on your Gleevec.  I would second the caution that Pat just gave to you regarding the constant sitting with legs in one position.  I was in the hospital last year with a huge bloodclot in my leg DVT, and never did find out how I got it.  Maybe sitting at the computer so much or whatever.  You never know how you get them, but the lengthy sitting on a airplane is one of the biggest causes.  Then you said you will be sitting in a car for quite a distance.  Be sure you move around and keep that blood circulating.

Just enjoy your trip, and take as much time as you can to stretch out.

I vote for staying home if it weren't for that fact that if you survive the wretched ordeal called "flying" these days you may actually be going someplace fun!

Nothing worse than a bad flight.  I'm the guy in the middle seat.  You wouldn't believe how hard it is to hit a moving target from 35,000 feet.  Enjoy!

I did a 13 hour flight to the US, my specialist said that as my blood work was in the normal range I was in no danger of gettng DVT than any one else on the plane.
