Had a CBC done today and my WBC were 10,6 So when I asked my doctor if that's ok, she said

yeah it is still within  the normal ranges......However yesterday I had something going on, had a little fever

of 99F, but today I feel fine so should I be too concerned???

The last time I had CBC done was 3 weeks ago and WBC were 4,5.

PS I had to create a brand new account since my password was getting rejected.

You could be fighting off some kind of bug.  That may explain the higher WBC and the fever.  I totally understand how you feel going from one extreme to another.  First we are too high, then too low.   We get used to being low, then we get normal or near normal blood counts, and we get spooked that we are losing response.  Well, it is cold and flu season.  And we get sick like everyone else.  I would say you shouldn't worry now.  If you feel real anxious, then you could probably go in and have another CBC done next week.  I have a standing order for mine and can go in any time I feel up to being stuck (which is never).

Good luck and good health,

Teds

Hi Dina,

When I was on Gleevac about once a month I would feel crappy and run a fever sometime 102. The next day I would feel fine. Since this happened to me on a regular basis my onc said call him if my fever went higher or if I was violently sick. When I first got down here in Florida I was so sick for about 2 weeks but no fever it was more like flu symptoms. Then I caught a cold and ran a low grade fever for over a week. I took 2 scripts of antibiotic before I felt human again. I also had my bw done during that time and it was fine.

It's so hard when you have cml because when we get sick we don't know if it's a bug  or cml related. I get bw every month and it's been fine, so I think I'm finally past the point where everything is not cml. I was dx Aug. 2007. So It will take awhile, but if you feel somethings not right call your onc. Remember he's working for you.            Sincerely Billie

Dina,

I wouldn't consider 99F to be a fever. My temp can easily vary from 97ish to 99ish on any typical day. If it gets to 100 deg, then I consider it a fever.

If you are still ovulating, the latter half of your cycle increases your daily temps, because you are producing progesterone. That's the heat-producing hormone, and one reason why pg women get so darn hot!

Chances are you are fighting something off.  I went to ER a couple of months back and my WBC was up around 9K.  I also had a spotty fever, it did go higher than yours, which is why I went to ER, I think it went 101 or 102, otherwise I would not have gone to urgent care.  A day later I was in the 99 range.  If it were me I would probably look to get another CBC in 2-3 weeks just for peace of mind.

My doctor didn't seem to worry about it at all, she said it is still within normal ranges and scheduled me

for another blood work on March 5th, but I'm like you guys I'll rather have it done sooner.

Thanks guys!

Hi:  To jump to a 10 from a 4.5 in 3 weeks sounds like it could be an infection or something.  I am not a doctor, but the way I am I would probably want another CBC done sooner just for peace of mind. It depends on how your numbers are running with each test also.  My WBC is always in the 3's sometimes up to a 4, so in my case If I had a jump to 10 I would be concerned for me, but we all know our own bodies and how we respond to different things.

You could just ask to have it done sooner.

Susan

I think I've seen them few times a little higher, like 7.9 and 8.4 but this is the highest so far.

Make me kinda nervous.

Hi Dina:  Try not to get nervous over it.  I find that I get worked up over things all the time, and then when I find out it was nothing I swear I will not do that to myself again.  Then something else comes up, but when you have CML, its normal to be concerned.  I hope your feeling good, and that your numbers are really good when you repeat the test.

Let us know how you make out.

Hey Dina,

I have finally not lost my account access for two weeks.  Don't know why, but it is kind of nice.  I think that the fact that you shared it with your doc is important!  Let her know how you are feeling.   If she is not worried, and you have a solid relationship with her, I would follow her advice and relax.  We are so used to looking at our blood numbers under a microscope, that every bump and valley, stresses us out -- we are very tuned into the numbers.  Once you have stable numbers for a while,  it is normal to have ups and downs with these numbers -- everybody does.  We are just monitoring these so closely, that we see every fluctuation.  Be sure to tell your onc that you don't want to be mollified, you want to know if there is a concern.  I think that if you communicate this to her, or have communicated this to her,  relax and enjoy this time where you don't have to stress.  ( I know, easier said than done).  Take care, Jack

Jack

Thanks Guys,

On Jan 9th I had my first PCR test and the numbers were 0.006 MMR at 3,5 months.

I'm going to have another PCR in 3 weeks. Its just that I've never seen my WBC this high before since they went to be within the

normal ranges again.

Is it possible that something can go wrong in less then 2 months?

Thanks so Much everybody!

Hi there,

So I've repeated my blood work today and my WBC are 6.0 ahh what a relief,

not sure what has caused them  to 10,7(High) only 3 weeks ago.

Wish I just didn't stressed out the way I did about it, but its all part of a living with CML I guess.

Hi Dina:  Glad your WBC came down, because it did give you the relief you needed. It is all part of living with CML.

I think I said previously that I do that to myself with everything also.  Blood work can fluctuate all the time.  Just glad your doing okay.

Glad to hear it, if you reflect back now with peace of mind, it is actually good that your immune system is working the way it should.
