Ok this sounds weird but I noticed this past week I can see like ALL the veins in my chest, breast and some in my hip and arms that were never visible before. What the heck is happening? Does Tasigna like thin your skin out or something? I am 35 and not pregnant (some people say it happens in pregnancy) and its kind of freaking me out!

Laura.

TKI drugs can reduce skin pigmentation, essentially making your skin very pale, which would result in making the blue shade of your veins more visible. This is why you have to be very careful about going out in the sun and make sure you wear a good sun block.

Basically you are a vampire now.  Fortunately the Twilight look is very fashionable these days.

I'm glad you brought up this subject.  I've noticed the same thing.  And I swear I've got more freckles, or maybe they were always there and now they're more noticeable because of the pale skin?

Oh how lovely the pale pasty skin is, or not.  I have always had color to my skin, even in the winter due to my Indian heritage, well Sprycel has reduced me to a sickly fish belly white hue.  I also noticed the increased vein exposure, good thing I am nearing 50, I can pretend some of this stuff is just old age.  As Lucky mentioned, the Twilight vampiristic (is that a word?) look is in, so at least for a while we will be in style!

Well, I guess that's one advantage to having ivory skin. I don't look see any difference pre- and post-gleevec!

I have also noticed my veins standing out more. Some days, the veins on the back of my hands look huge!  But not every day. I figured it was a sign I was carrying more water around, hence they looked more plump. I'd better hope I don't run into any vampires. I probably look like a tasty morsel.

Ah but Traci, the trick would be on those vampires if they took a bite out of one of us.  I don't think the girls of team Edward would be half as enamored with the thought of him sitting on the bowl with case of the sharts - sparkling or not!

Hi Luvmbybees,

I am 64 years old.  I went on Gleevec in 2005 at age 57.  However I noticed in my early 50's, long before I went on Gleevec, the veins in my hands were larger or the skin thinner, I don't which.  So I am thinking mine was probably due to my age.

However you are 35.

I do have a 40 year old daughter, who weigh about 110 lb who is a fitness trainer, and won a ladies scup-lure contest last year.  She looks much younger then she is, but her hands are large and her veins stand out in her hands, probably due to all the weight lifting.

Have you been lifting weights?

On the benefit side, my large veins in my hand are excellent for all my blood work: so hard to find my veins elsewhere!

I hope you're doing well. Spring is coming! [okay, here in California the paperwhites have bloomed and now the early blossoms are delighting us on some of the trees]

Hey Chris,

I live 15 miles from downtown Indianapolis, Indiana.  Super Bowl this Sunday.  Downtown Indy is humming with all kinds of festivities and famous people flying in from all over the world.

The past two days the weather has been in the 60's.  Hoping to keep the unseasonable warm weather until after superbowl.  Last year we pretty much had freezing ice storms all summer, most planes grounded coming in and out of the city at this time last year.

Indy is  making a wad of money.  A beer is $7.00, bottle of water $4.00, etc.  They say the prices are going up on Sunday Super Bowl day.

This is a huge event for Indianapolis, our first super bowl, and the city has poured billion of dollars; into building the new stadium, build a new airport a couple of years ago,  adding motels, and beautifying the city.

Hiya PamSouth,

That's a lot of excitement! Enjoy the day

Today--Piglet and Pooh.jpg

"What day is it,?" asked Pooh.

"It's today," squeaked Piglet.

"My favorite day," said Pooh."

Hi Laura,

I've noticed a bright blue vein on the side of my face, I feel like a Smurf!!!

Pam South, I live in the Boston area so of course the amazing Patriots are my team. Who are you rooting for? Before you answer, remember, my health is very fragile what with the leukemia and all so I need to feel supported by all you guys on the board and that extends to the team you are rooting for in the Super Bowl!!!

Judy2,  I live just 15 miles from Indianapolis where the Super Bowl is being held.  The weather has been in the 60's the last couple of days, hope it holds out until after Super Bowl.  Planes flying in from all over the world.  A year ago at this time we were have major ice storms.

Indianapolis has spent billions of dollars getting ready for this day.  Built a huge stadium, a new airport a couple of years ago, motels, beautifying the city.

All kinds of celebrates in town all week.  People tell me they are charging $7.00 for a bottle of beer, and the price is going up on Super Bowl day, Got to get some of that money back.

Our famous Colts died this last year without Manning.  But now we have a new Coach.  I never thought you could have a one man team, but Manning well he was a coach, a leader in his own right.

Who am I rooting for, let me think about that?

Indy hospitality running high!!

Hi Pam S.,

Yes, Manning was good, but nobody is better than my Tommy.
