Hi Everyone. I have a question. I saw my onc. today because of a very bad rash I had on my face from Tasigna. He told me to go off the Tasigna and if it's better by next week I can restart the Tasigna at one pill per day. However, about 3 hours ago I noticed the rash had spread to my arms (my last Tasigna was 24 hours ago.) I took 180 mg. of Allegra and the rash on my arms is now better, Does this mean I had an allergic reaction to the Tasigna or was the rash a side effect. I will discuss it with my onc. when I call him Monday but now I'm thinking I may not be able to restart the Tasigna at all. If this is the case I will only have Sprycel left of the FDA approved drugs. Kind of scary. Any thoughts?

Judy

Hi Mark. You are very kind. I'm too exhausted to call tonight, maybe we can talk this weekend. I actually had some swelling as well as redness. Also, I had some bumps almost like welts.  Have a very Happy Thanksgiving, Mark.

Judy,

I got a rash also when I first started Tasigna. I did not have anything like that on Gleevec. It was sort of an inflammatory rash, it diminished when I reduced the dose. I think it is worth a try to start back at a much lower dose gradually. That is what I did. It may not be an allergic reaction at all, but rather a side effect. I have been able to take it with not nearly the reaction I had initially, just barely noticeable. Good luck !

Janne

Dx'd: 8/2008. Started Gleevec 400 mg 11/08.

Drug break 2011.

Started Tasigna 4/11 450 mg.

Reduction to 300 mg Tasigna 1/2012.

PCRU 9/2012.

12/2012 Detectable.

PCRU 4/2013 through 3/2015. (Reduced to 150 mg 7/2014)

12/2015  ? slightly detectable at probably less than 0.01% per Mayo Clinic.

4/2016 PCRU. Still at 150 mg Tasigna.

CESSATION: stopped treatment 7/20/2017.

9/6/2017:  barely detectable at 0.01%.

12/11/2017: PCR at 0.09% (did not do the monthly PCR testing.)

12/18/2017: Inevitable call from Onc. Started back on Tasigna at 150 mg. (Considering Sprycel low dose.)

Judy, yes but not all the time, due to other reasons. I definitely had much less of an inflammatory reaction at the lower doses though.
